Consultation

While many children and parents may benefit from comprehensive evaluations, individual and/ or group therapy, other families tend to have more specific questions that require brief models of intervention, which I refer to as consultations.

Common consultation questions/ referrals include:

o   My child was recently given a diagnosis of Autism, what next?

o   My child receives school based special education services, private therapies (e.g., speech and language, occupational therapy, physical therapy), and sees a psychiatrist.  I need help coordinating his care across providers.

o   I am not sure if the services recommended on my child’s IEP are appropriate.

o   How do I know if my child is making progress in school?

o   My child has been evaluated numerous times and I would like someone to review her records to help with future treatment planning?

o   I think my child needs a neuropsychological evaluation, but I am not sure.

o   I am not sure if I understand my child’s recent evaluation.

o   Do you know of private speech and language pathologists, BCBAs, occupational therapists, feeding therapists, educational advocates, or educational attorneys?

Through these consultations, I try to answer parent’s specific questions by providing psychoeducation as well direct guidance on “next steps.”   Some families see me once, while others prefer to come on a monthly or quarterly basis.  We develop a plan of care together.
